I have been quilting since 1999 and have decided to keep an online journal of my quilts. In this way, I can document their history and preserve their memory for my family and future generations. Most of my quilts are made as gifts; and with few exceptions, I have taken pictures of my quilts with their recipient. I have also made many charity quilts for Project Linus, Wrapped in Hope and Quilts for Kids.

Please join me for my quilt parade!

My Quilt #2 ~ Stella’s Quilt 1999

Stella’s Quilt 1999
This quilt is very special to me as it was my very first “real” quilt. I took a beginner’s quilting class in 1999 at my LQS that taught us the Rail Fence.  I purchased this fabric kit at the class.

My DD Stella had always admired this quilt—she first saw it when she and the grandbabies came to live with us in 1999. She said she loved the colors and the setting. I told her that I would never give up this quilt as it was my “first” real quilt—so instead, I made a scrappy Mock Log Cabin quilt that I gave to her in 2000.

Well, never say never! In 2002, DD moved back to Tennessee with her family—after living with me for three years. I missed them so much that I wanted to give her something special to remind her of me and her family in California—I decided to give her my “special” quilt as a Christmas gift.  However, the finished quilt top had been put away for the past three years … so I told her I would complete the quilt before sending it.

A year later, in 2003, I visited DD in Tennessee.  Although by then the top had been quilted, it was still missing the binding. I took it with me to Tennessee, anyway, hoping that I’d find just the right fabric for the binding … but I didn’t find anything I liked and returned home without the quilt and without binding it. DD eventually decided to do the binding with black fabric, which she says “frames” the quilt very nicely!

Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of the quilt with its binding, but the picture above shows the quilt as I gave it to my DD.  I know this quilt is loved very much and my DD will always treasure it.
