My Quilts #296 ~ Moment of Zen 2022

Image
Finished size: 85" square This is an original design by Jo's Country Junction.  The pattern was published in the August/September 2020 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting .   I knew it'd be perfect for my niece Sandra and ordered a bundle of fat quarters of the Cider fabric intending to give her the quilt for her birthday in February.  Well, time flew by and I missed her birthday deadline.   But I was determined to make this quilt for her and started it the first week of May and finally finished it in June. I quilted it with the Curls Too design installed in my Moxie and used Warm & Natural batting.   And, the label completes the quilt! June 2022 UPDATE :   I gifted this quilt to my darling niece in August to celebrate her birthday in April.   She LOVED it and has it on her bed.

My Quilts #287 ~ Rolling Rainbow 2022

Image
Finished Size: 82" x 98" I started this quilt in January 2021 as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and finished the top in August. After that, I promptly added it to my pile of projects that needed quilting.  However, once I decided to gift it to my niece, it was time to finish it.  This quilt was a long time in the making, but it is so happy and cheerful that I’m so glad I didn’t give up. I love the result, and my quilt inspectors, OJ and Pepper, also give it their seal of approval.  I used all Kona solids for this quilt  and a queen-sized Warm & Natural batting.  T he quilting design is an E2E pantograph of Baptist Fans. The backing is a fun print that is perfect for my niece.  And, of course, a label for the finale. UPDATE :   I gifted this quilt to my darling niece in August to celebrate her birthday in February.  She LOVED it! May 2022

My Quilts #284 ~ You Are My Sunshine 2022

Image
Finished Size: 56" x 71" I made this  "You Are My Sunshine" quilt for my granddaughter Katie. I quilted it on my Moxie with an E2E floral design.  I just love my Moxie with the Pro-Stitcher Lite but still have a lot to learn. I found the perfect backing with tons of sunflowers and cute little birds. And, a quilt is not complete until it has a label. Kaite and Her Quilt - April 2022 I gave the quilt to my granddaughter Katie when she came for a week-long visit.  Katie and Her Quilt - 2000 I've been making quilts for Katie since she was born.  This pink and blue rail fence quilt was the first one I ever made.  This quilt was well-loved and somehow it survived the passage of time.  It found its way back to me where I am safely saving it for Katie someday. My Quilts #269 ~ Quilt of Valor Wall Hanging 2021

Image
Finished Size: 42" x 57" I was asked to make this Quilt of Valor by my dear friend Cindy. Her husband is a Vietnam War veteran, and I know she treasures and appreciates the quilts I give her, so I was very happy to oblige. I quilted it with an allover E2E star quilting design from Urban Elementz.  This is my first panel quilt and I was worried the quilting design would detract from the beautiful eagle print.  I used a light blue thread and am happy to see that it blends in beautifully. I used a patriotic print for the backing and also added a sleeve for use as a wall hanging. He was very happy to receive it and said he will always treasure it.  September 2021

My Quilts #266 ~ Simple Hearts Wall Hanging 2021

Image
Simple Hearts is a free pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew that I started back in February after seeing Sharon Holland's quilt (below). I fell in love with her fabric choices and wanted to make something similar using fabrics from my stash.  I did not use traditional red and am really happy with the fabrics I used. I quilted it with an overall hearts and loops design and used a polyester batting.   The backing is from my stash and has a pretty floral print.  It's a small quilt measuring 33" x 35", a nice size for a small wall hanging or table topper. July 2021 Update:    In August 2023, I gave this quilt to my granddaughter Emily. She was on her way to Seattle and stopped to stay overnight with her Tia Connie and cousin Lisa. Before leaving, she came by for a short visit, and I was able to give Emily the quilt.

My Quilts #264 ~ Scrappy Heart Lap Quilt 2021

Image
Finished Size: 49" x 59" I finished the quilt top in January, but then put it aside to work on another quilt. Then we started working on our landscaping, and quilting was put on hold.  When my two BFFs and I agreed to meet for breakfast for the first time in over a year, I pulled this top from the UFO pile and quickly finished it the night before to gift to Cindy as a belated February birthday gift. I am very happy with the finish and she loves her quilt! March 2021

My Quilts #261-#263 ~ Scrappy Mini Heart Quilts 2021

Image
My first finished quilts for 2021! Each mini quilt measures 26" square with four heart blocks, and each has a different backing. I used batting scraps to make these mini quilts. I quilted each in a grid with straight stitch-in-the-ditch and outlined each heart. I gifted two of these quilts to my granddaughters.  T hey were shipped to Tennessee and Kentucky and have been received.  I gifted the third one to my BFF Brenda for Valentine's Day.  My DGD Katie in Kentucky sent me this picture of her mini heart quilt hanging on her "special" wall.  I sure do miss her! My Quilts #260 ~ Square Dance Stash Buster 2020

Image
Finished Size: 56" x 64" I stumbled upon the 2020 Stash Buster Challenge by the Border Creek Station in January on Facebook.  The challenge was to make 52 Square Dance Blocks by the end of the year to be entered into a drawing. But other things and other quilts took priority and before long, the yearend was only 5 weeks away.  Time to get on the ball! I'd made a couple yellow and blue quilts in the past years and had some leftover yellow floral fat quarters.  It was time to use them up, and this stash buster was perfect. I used a cotton blend sheet with a pretty floral print as the backing and used lightweight polyester batting.  I quilted it with an edge-to-edge floral pantograph. Each block is 8" finished, and there are 64 blocks with a 7 x 8 layout.  I did one simple outer border that finishes at 1-3/4".   Read more about this quilt  here . December 2020 12/22/20 I did a quick drop-off to gift the quilt to my friend.  ( Yes, I wore ...

My Quilts #259 ~ Single Wedding Ring 2020

Image
Finished Size: 64" x 78" I made this Crown of Thorns (aka Single Wedding Ring) quilt for a long-time friend who was married in June and then celebrated her birthday in October.  The COVID-19 pandemic has kept us apart and unable to participate in special events.  So, I wanted to do something to let her know I was thinking of her on her special day.  I love the collection of pretty floral fabrics which I've had for a few years.  The backing is a bedsheet in a pretty floral design.  I used lightweight polyester batting, and I quilted it with an edge-to-edge heart pantograph.  I think it's all perfect. Read more about this quilt  here . December 2020 Update:  I had lunch with my friend Alice in November and gifted her this quilt.  It was wonderful to see her again!  She later sent me a picture of the quilt on her bed.

My Quilts #258 ~ Bobby Dazzler Lap Quilt 2020

Image
I made this quilt from a kit I started in September and finished this month. The pattern is Bobby Dazzler by Pressed for Time Quiltworks (c) 2007 by Mary Hubka. I love everything about this quilt: the star blocks, the colors, the fabrics. They're all so pretty. I quilted it with an E2E loopy heart design. The backing is a beautiful all-over design of pink roses which I thought was perfect for this quilt. I made a mistake while quilting this quilt. I forgot to lower the needle bar and quilted a whole row before I realized it. This caused loose threads on the bottom, which I had to pick out by hand. Then I finished the quilting on my regular machine. I'm glad it was only one row and not a big quilt. The batting is a lightweight poly-fil and t he quilt measures 46" x 58". Read more about this quilt here . December 2020 Update:   April 2021 ~  I gifted this quilt to my niece Diane's spouse, Kimm, who is going through some health issues. I hope it brings her comfort a...
