I have been quilting since 1999 and have decided to keep an online journal of my quilts. In this way, I can document their history and preserve their memory for my family and future generations. Most of my quilts are made as gifts; and with few exceptions, I have taken pictures of my quilts with their recipient. I have also made many charity quilts for Project Linus, Wrapped in Hope and Quilts for Kids.

Please join me for my quilt parade!

My Quilts #240: Ombre HST Quilt 2019

When DGD told me she and her friend were moving back east, I wanted to give them something special for their new adventure.  Of course, a special quilt would fit the bill!

Emily and Her Ombre HST Quilt

Emily searched online and selected this free pattern.  It is Ombre HST Quilt Pattern by Sarah Goer and was out of my comfort zone, but the half-square-triangle design was fairly easy.  The instructions were also easy to follow. The fabrics are all KONA cotton and it was a fun quilt to make.

I gifted this to her on Christmas Day.  Her smile and hugs were my rewards.  I will miss her very much!

Patches of Life

And so ends another 10 years of quilting (2010-2019) with 40 quilt projects -- definitely not as productive as the previous 10 years but I'm happy to still be quilting.  This also marks 11 years of retirement.  Wow, time flies by too fast.

Of these 40 projects, I created and donated 13 charity quilts, mostly to Quilts for Kids.  I sold 11 quilts and gifted 12 quilts to family and friends.  The remaining four projects are in my personal collection.

My goal for the next decade is the same as it was in 2009.  I hope the next 10 years still find me quilting and doing more advanced projects … I would like that very much!

My Quilts #239: 4-Patch Slice Quilt 2019

When DGD told me she and her friend were moving back east, I wanted to give them something special for their new adventure.  Of course, a special quilt would fit the bill!

Kalauni and Her 4-Patch Quilt

Kalauni picked the colors for her quilt, but DGD picked the pattern from a few I showed her.  It is 4-Patch Slice by Inspiring Creations and is a free online pattern. I gifted this to her on Christmas Day, and the smile on her face was priceless.

My Quilts #238: Slash Your Stash Halloween Quilt 2019

This is the second scrappy Halloween quilt I started in October 2015 with the intention of giving this one to DGD#3 for Halloween.  Life got in the way and the project was put away along with the other Halloween quilt for DGD#2. Fast forward four years later to October 2019, and I decided it was time to finish this quilt too.

The pattern for this is from Slash Your Stash Quilts by Claudia Plett and is titled Decisions, Decisions.  It measures 80" x 80" and is a larger throw-size.

My Quilts #237: Halloween Scrappy Stars Quilt 2019

I started this scrappy Halloween quilt in October 2015 with the intention of gifting it to DGD#2 for Halloween.  At the time, I'd already made 40 of the star blocks and eventually sewed the top together.  Then life got in the way and the project was put away. Fast forward four years later to October 2019, and I decided it was time to finish the quilt.

The pattern for this is from American Patchwork & Quilting October 2014.  It is called Happy Halloween.  I used 20 of the star blocks and used a 4 x 5 layout.  It measures 53" x 62" and is a nice throw-size. (I have enough leftover blocks to make a 2nd quilt for me!)

DGD#2 no longer lives with me, and she is no longer 15 years old but I think she will still love this quilt.  I will just have to go visit her in Kentucky to give it to her!

November 2019

UPDATE: June 2020 - DGD#2 had planned a visit in April but thanks to the Covid19 pandemic, no one was visiting anyone soon.  As the months passed and as I learned more about this dangerous virus, I realized this was not going to end before 2021.

I love, love, love this quilt and I didn't want to wait to give it to her so I mailed it to her.  Although she knew I was sending something to her, DGD#2 had NO idea what to expect.

And, here she is with her Halloween quilt with lots of love from her grandma!

I miss her so very much!  Although she's now in Kentucky, I hope the day will come when we'll be able to visit.
